• Julie hails from Brooklyn, NY, and first made her way to Ithaca to attend Cornell University. While at Cornell, she discovered a deep connection to Jewish life through Hillel services and joined Birthright Israel’s second-ever trip (make sure to ask her why she skipped the first one—it’s a classic “Julie” story). That experience sparked a lifelong love for both the richness of Israel and the joy of travel.

She remained in Ithaca to pursue her law degree at Cornell Law School, eventually returning to New York City after graduation. Julie spent the next two decades practicing law in NYC, primarily in the higher education sector. After 20 years, she felt it was time to come back to Ithaca and contribute to one of the most joyful and inclusive Jewish communities in the country.

Today, Julie feels incredibly lucky to work with such inspiring students, guiding and supporting the next generation of Jewish leaders at a truly pivotal time in history.

Outside of work, she loves being part of her book and cookbook clubs, traveling whenever she can, playing mah jong (if she can find a game!), and spending quality time with her husband William, their daughter Gabrielle, and their miniature labradoodles, Bella and Brooklyn.

  • Description text goes hereBorn and raised in Brooklyn, Claire moved to rural Geneseo, New York for college. At SUNY Geneseo Claire graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology in May of 2023. From her first Shabbat at Geneseo, she dedicated her time to her Hillel community and filled numerous roles there with her favorites being LGBTQ Inclusion Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, and President. She also had a voracious interest in both research and clinical psychology spending time in three laboratories and one clinical internship before graduation. After graduating, Claire moved to Buffalo for work and created a LGBTQ Jewish Organization in her free time. It was in Buffalo she realized her true passion was creating joyful Jewish communities that lifts people up and invites them in. Through her friendship with another Springboard Fellow, Claire learned about the opportunity to make that passion a career with Hillel. Claire is thrilled to work at Ithaca College Hillel and get to know all of their students! She hopes to bring her passion for social justice as well as her extroverted personality to the role. In her personal life she loves Ben and Jerry’s Marshmallow Sky Ice Cream, swapping clothes with friends, and weightlifting. You can email Claire at cshroder@ithaca.edu
